Mineral sunscreens, chemical sunscreens... What does it all mean and which one do YOU want?!
With this post, I will help you know what to look for for YOUR ideal sunscreen!

First of all, you should know that sunscreen products are often a mix of two different kinds of sunscreens:
CHEMICAL: 🧪
*Avobenzone
*Oxybenzone
*Octinoxate
👍 PROs: filter UVB rays
👎 CONs: Can be irritating to skin and eyes, needs 20 minutes to work.
and PHYSICAL: 🛡
*Zinc Oxide
*Titanium dioxide
👍 PROs: Works immediately, not irritating, reflects/scatters UVB rays into the atmosphere and away from the skin
👎 CONs: Develops a white cast over the skin
As mentioned, these types ONLY protect against UVB rays, which are known for Burns, but not UVA rays, which are known to cause Aging
(UVA = Aging, UVB = Burns!)
💎 MINERAL SUNSCREENS are considered more "natural" and protect against both UVA & UVB rays, but also leave a white cast to the skin and need to be applied more often.
**Tip: Use your anti-aging/anti-pollutant products to help fight against UVAs!

How much SPF do I need? 🤔
Regardless of how much a company says they can fit, sunscreen within SPF 30-50 is plenty of sunburn protection for even those with the most sensitive skins! Anything higher may actually expose users to more UVA rays, raise irritation, and tempt them to stay in the sun too long!
**Tip: Daily use of SPF 15 or more reduces your risk of some cancers by 40%!!

SUNSCREEN WARNINGS TO KNOW!
The chemical sunscreen Oxybenzone is not recommended for children or women who are pregnant or nursing! This ingredient has created concern for its possible link with causing certain cancers!
Vitamin A, a common additive used in sunscreen, may speed up the development of skin cancers! Be sure to avoid if possible. If you use a medication or retinol product (another name for Vitamin A), consider using them at night or out of direct sunlight.
**Tip: Sunscreen isn't the only prevention of UV rays! Remember to use adequate cover (hat, sleeved tops, sunglasses) while in the sun to help keep your exposure level low.

Sunscreens are available in numerous forms now, including lotions, creams, and even sprays (which are helpful to keep your makeup in place!)
I hope with these tips in preventive care, you can finally know what to look for when choosing the perfect sunscreen!
