If you’ve ever wondered, “What brand has the best eyeshadow palettes, Natasha Denona or Pat McGrath Labs?” then this is the post for you! I’ll be comparing two of my favorite high-end eyeshadow palettes, the Natasha Denona Gold Eyeshadow Palette and the Pat McGrath Labs Bronze Seduction palette.
This is the best guide to choosing between two high-end eyeshadow palette brands - we will compare price, shades, even the pan weight - so you can find the best eyeshadow palette for you. And not just that, you can see side-by-side swatch comparisons in my swatch party video above!
What I’m comparing in this post…
We will be looking at these comparisons between ND and PMG:
🎨 Price
🎨 Number of Shades
🎨 Matte Shades
🎨 Shimmer Shades
🎨 Glitter Shades
🎨 Pan Weight (Amount of Product)
Whether you’re looking to buy the ND Gold Palette or the PMG Mothership V specifically or are considering other eyeshadow palettes from these brands, this post should help you choose your next splurge from Natasha Denona or Pat McGrath Labs!
Natasha Denona Gold Palette vs. Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette - which is better?
🤔 MY CONCLUSION: After careful comparison between the two palettes, I believe the original 15-pan Natasha Denona Gold Palette is a better value than the 10-pan Mothership V: Bronze Seduction palette. For only $4 more, the Gold Palette gets you 5 more shades and almost double the weight in product. Keep reading to see more of my detailed reasons why!
🙋🏻♀️ WHY TRUST ME? I have years of experience in high-end makeup, and I am very passionate about what I put on my face. I like glitz and glam, but also everyday makeup looks, so I bring a balanced opinion to the table. Plus, I’ve had both these palettes for over a year and can confidently say I’ve tested them both out on many occasions!

💰 Price Comparison - Pat McGrath and Natasha Denona
💰 Natasha Denona Gold Palette: $129
💰 Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: $125
These high-end eyeshadow palettes are very close in price, but Natasha is a little more expensive. But if you’re spending $120+ on an eyeshadow palette, another $4 is not much more to spare! 💸
🎨 Total number of Shades
Many of Natasha Denona’s palettes are 15 shades with 3 rows of 5 shades each, while Pat McGrath palettes tend to be 10 shades with 2 rows of 5 shades each, and both of these palettes follow that pattern.
🎨 Natasha Denona Gold Palette: 15 Shades
🎨 Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: 10 Shades
MY OPINION: I tend to prefer larger palettes with more options to keep from switching back and forth too much, but others would rather get more unique colors with fewer options overall. 😌
Which do you prefer? 🤔
How many Matte Shades do these eyeshadow palettes have?
Matte shades are typically used for more “everyday” looks and transition colors to help the flashier colors pop. ND’s Gold palette has twice as many matte shades as the PMG Bronze Seduction.
🖍 Natasha Denona Gold Palette: 6 Matte Shades - Python 195CP (Deep teal), Aria 197CM (Warm pink beige), Dijon 200CM (Rich mustard), Log 202CM (Dark brown), Sandstone 205CM (Cool yellow beige), Teak 207CM (Medium brown)
🖍 Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: 3 Matte Shades - Entrapment (tawny terra-cotta matte), Xtreme Aubergine (blackened matte violet), Disobedient (classic matte mahogany)
MY OPINION: I’d rather use one palette with mattes and shimmers/glitters together, especially for everyday makeup looks. Realistically, I tend to reach for the matte shades more often than shimmer/glitter shades, so I prefer the ND over the PMG. 😌
However, more advanced MUAs might have plenty of matte shades already and not want to waste precious palette space covering the basics on their higher-end palettes. I totally can understand this, too! 💁🏻♀️
What about you? 🤔
How many Shimmer Shades do these eyeshadow palettes have?
✨ Shimmer shades are great for adding some extra glam to an otherwise everyday eyeshadow look. These catch the light but they don’t throw it back quite as dramatically as a glitter or metallic shade.
✨ Natasha Denona Gold Palette: 3 Shimmer Shades - Sparks 196K (Sheer vanilla gold), Cava 198K (Champagne gold), Aurora 199CK (Peacock blue)
✨ Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: 2 Shimmer Shades - Skin Show Divine Glow (golden champagne), Rose Gold 005 (gleaming rose gold)
MY OPINION: The palettes are almost equal in shimmer shades - ND follows the gold theme for most shades but has one unique accent of blue, while PMG sticks to classic champagne and rose gold shades, I think it’s so the eyeshadow can double as highlight on the cheekbones. PMG feels like it’s playing it safe in this category, but I believe the glitter and duochrome shades come through to balance it out with extra dramatic flair!
The ND shades are definitely more neutral, which might make them boring to some looking for out-of-this-world shades. But I have personally had great results using a common shade in an uncommon finish, so I ultimately prefer the ND for shimmer shades!
How many Metallic/Duochrome/Glitter Shades do these eyeshadow palettes have?
🤩 Metallic, glitter and duochrome eyeshadow shades really make a palette stand out and make everyone ask what you’re wearing! In this category, I say go big or go home.
✨ Natasha Denona Gold Palette: 6 Metallic/Duochrome/Glitter Shades - Lime Chrome 194DC (Golden apricot/green duochrome), Oro 201M (Warm gold), Varis 203M: Medium brown, Brass 204M: Green-toned gold, Alchemist 206M (Cool bronze gold), Aurum 208CP (Cool gold)
✨ Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: 5 Metallic/Duochrome/Glitter Shades - Blaze Bronze (glittering golden bronze), VR Fire Opal (color shifting chartreuse), Gilty Pleasure (silky bronzed taupe), Blitz Flame (molten metallic crimson), Astral Luna Gold (glistening white gold)
MY OPINION: The ND metallics perform amazingly in their own right but just look at those Pat McGrath metallics - so smooth and little to no fallout. The duochrome takes my breath away! Sorry ND, but for this category, PMG glitters are absolutely unmatched.
How many grams are the eyeshadow pans?
🎨 Natasha Denona Gold Palette: 2.5 grams per each eyeshadow pan
🎨 Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette: 1.32 g per each eyeshadow pan
MY OPINION: This blew my mind - Natasha Denona 15-shadow palette pans have almost twice the weight in product as the Pat McGrath Labs 10-pan eyeshadow palettes! They’re both similarly expensive, but this makes the ND palettes a much better value, if they meet your expectations. If the unique shades of PMG are more your style, this really puts into perspective just how quality her product really is!
High-End Eyeshadow Comparison Q&A
Q: Is Natasha Denona gold palette discontinued? 😩
A: Unfortunately, yes - the original Gold Palette was discontinued sometime in 2021 after over 2 years of huge popularity.

Plus, there are plenty of Natasha Denona 15-pan Eyeshadow Palettes still available that give the same amount of value as the Gold palette, such as Sunset ($129), Trichrome ($129), and Love ($69).

A: If you're looking for an alternative to the discontinued Natasha Denona Gold shadow palette, you could try these instead:

Q: How many grams is a Pat McGrath palette?
A: Each mothership palette contains 10 pans with about 0.047 oz. / 1.32 g each.
