Today I’m writing about a serum from Murad that I always wanted to try out. I received a tiny sample from Sephora with my recent order, so I gave it a try. 🌸
I don’t typically write about a product sample that I can only try once or twice (unless they are exceptionally good) because I feel that I won’t be able to speak much about how effective they are. However, this serum - known for being a gentle retinol serum - was a exceptionally pleasant to use and I liked it so much that I decided to write about it. 😍✨

Murad is named for its founder, Dr Howard Murad, who is a pioneer in the fields of skincare and wellness. Murad is a brand that believes skincare isn't just about beauty, but about health care and self care as well.
❓Who is Dr Murad❓
Dr Murad is a board-certified dermatologist, a trained pharmacist and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. He is the founder of Murad Skincare and author of multiple books, including “The Water Secret,” the “Cellulite Solution,” and “Wrinkle Free Forever.” He’s also the president of the University for Inclusive Health, and continues to see patients at his practice in California.
When Dr Murad launched his eponymous skincare line in 1989 it was the first physician branded product line to hit the market. He is also credited with launching the first medical spa, as well as pioneering the use of alpha hydroxyl and beta hydroxyl acids, and pinpointed stress as a major health threat.

🌿Analysis of Effectiveness🌿
Retinol and Retinylproprionate are roughly down at around a third of the ingredient list, therefore not in a very high concentration. However, it makes sense as this serum is supposed to be gentle and beginner friendly.
Other ingredients in the list that caught my attention included Vitamin E as antioxidant, Zinc against inflammation and a nice blend of Glycerin, Urea and sugars like Trehalose as humectants.
The main emollients are Dimethicone and Shea Butter (I looove Shea butter!). It also contains some plant extracts, Squalane and Yeast aminoacids.
Please note that this serum does have some fragrance and Citronellol (in the essential oils), so if you have sensitive skin, start with a sample just to be safe. 🙌✨

I got my 1 ml sample (so it’s about $3 in value) for free with my purchase at Sephora. I think it is quite expensive for a serum of its kind, but I do agree that it is a nice one (read on and see why I think so).
😍what I love about this serum😍
💚 being non greasy & lightweight and doesn’t make my skin oily like some other retinol products I tried before
💚 the light floral scent
💚 I didn’t expect anything noticeable but my skin appeared brighter & gooey and softer the day after I used it
💚 it’s soothing (Shea butter) and nourishing enough for my combination skin
💚 as advertised, it does feel gentle on the skin
I also tried out the facial cream sample from a different brand together with serum, so I am not entirely sure if all the good things I’ve seen were all because of this serum. But overall, I like how it feels on my skin a lot! 😍
🤔what I don’t like about it 🤔
I wish Murad could disclose the percentage of the retinol used in the product so it could justify its high price.
🎶Alternative products 🎶
A non-retinol anti-aging serum that claims to have anti-aging properties that are gentle to the skin is Clarins I’ve only tried a small tube of sample before, and it was indeed very gentle on the skin. If I get another tube of the deluxe sample, I’ll be writing a review on that too.

✨final words✨
This serum from Murad feels comfortable on my skin and I like how it improves the texture of my skin. However, I’m not sure if it would work it’s magic as an anti-aging serum. I would certainly need to get a small bottle of it to figure it out before reaching a final conclusion! ✨
