I am so exited I was introduced to the company Dossier thru Prismpop! I had heard of them before but never really explored the brand. I recently redeemed my points to test out one of their fragrances and I’m here to break it down for you!!!
What is Dossier 🤷🏼♀️
Dossier is a company on a mission to deliver premium quality, ethical, and affordable perfume for all. The brand launched in 2018 with a simple philosophy, that smelling good should not be so expensive.
Today almost 200,000 followers rally behind that same origin story. Dossier is a direct-to-consumer fragrance company specializing in designer fragrance dupes.
Dupe is a nickname for the world duplicate. What this means is Dossier creates identical versions of your favorite designer scents at a fraction of the cost. Traditional designer markups were leaving people behind.
Often designer scents were marked up due to fancy packaging, celebrity endorsement, or the dreaded brand tax. Dossier creates the same designer quality fragrances, actually using the same suppliers in some instances, but at prices within reach.
So the scent I chose was Musky Musk: a fragrance inspired by Juliette Has a Gun Not. Perfume. Here is a little about the fragrance:
☑️Dubbed the UFO of the world of perfume
☑️Based with the high tech and high end synthetic molecule celatox
☑️What is celatox???➡️it is the base that allows the fragrance to be very discreet when applied but the aura of the fragrance develops gradually and the full potential is not revealed for a few hours
☑️Scent family: Musk (duh) 🤣
☑️$29 💵 (versus Juliette Has a Gun at $100)
Fragrance Notes 📝
Middle: Celatox, ISO E Super
Base: Habanolide, musks
What Is Juliette Has a Gun?💋
Juliette Has a Gun is the brainchild of Romano Ricci, the great-grandson of legendary French fashion designer and perfumer Nina Ricci. Romano Ricci is a self-taught and instinctive perfumer.
For nearly one decade, Romano studied perfume, working alongside some of the greats like Francis Kurkdjian and Isabelle Maillebiau. The 44-year-old perfumer turned entrepreneur launched Juliette Has a Gun fifteen years ago.
The brand launched in two homes, Paris and Grasse, France, the perfume epicenter of the world. Juliette Has a Gun creates exclusive perfumes and scented products like hand creams and home fragrances with signature scents.
Romano believes that signature scents speak volumes. It's a statement and isn't just about smelling good. Romano wants scent to be an affirmation of your being.🍁
He aims to restore perfumes to the emblems of style and originality that they once were. That is why all of his scents are unique and even smell different to each person.
💋Who Is the Founder of Juliette Has a Gun?
Romano Ricci might be the mysterious founder of Juliette Has a Gun, a brand primarily focused on women's fragrances, but his brand is anything but mysterious. Ricci launched the brand over a decade ago, and it now has hundreds of thousands of points of sale worldwide.
Most notably, his Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume is incredibly popular at beauty giant Sephora. Riccis' brand challenges the norms of the perfume industry.
Ricci took a unique path than what was predicted for him as the great-grandson of Nina Ricci. He saw a gap in the perfume industry and took the opportunity to return it to how it used to be, an art, not a marketing initiative.
As the artistic director and founder of Juliette Has a Gun, Ricci is committed to challenging the stigmas in perfumery and going against the grain, just like the lady he creates for.
✈Where Is Juliette Has a Gun From?💋
Juliette Has a Gun is a French fragrance brand founded by Romano Ricci. The brand headquarters is originally from Paris, France where Romano is originally from.
Ricci traveled frequently between Paris and Grasse, France, to develop his line of exquisite scents. Grasse is the perfume capital of the world and where hundreds of brands, including Dossier, create their iconic scents.🌰
Grasse is the birthplace of the bestselling women's fragrance, Chanel No5. It is also where Russian royalty found their unique perfumer.
Since the 18th century, brands scoured Grasse to work with legendary perfumers. The city is off the famed Cote d' Azur in France.
The fields of Grasse, where Juliet Has a Gun Not a Perfume, and more of Ricci's scents are developed, are full of different flowering plants, herbs, and other aromatic living species.
There are acres of roses, peonies, lavender, and more. Lavender is one of Romano Ricci's favorite scents and continues to play a role in some of his products.
💋What Is the Concept Behind Juliette Has a Gun?
You might be wondering where on earth the name Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume stemmed from. Ricci's brand is called Juliette Has a Gun.
Juliette's gun is a metaphor for her power, which in Ricci's world is her perfume. The brand plays at a twisted Shakespeare heroine.
She is transported to the modern day with a gun, the metaphor for her aroma stemming from her perfume. This scent is a weapon of mass seduction. The idea is that if you give a girl the right scent, she will conquer the world.
Ricci's "Not a Collection" is an assortment of perfumes and body products inspired by the Not a Perfume scent. The reason this scent is named "Not a Perfume" is because of the chemical makeup of the fragrance.
According to the chemical ingredients, this scent is truly not a perfume in the traditional sense. This is because it only contains one fragrance component, which is synthetic ambergris known as cetalox.
Everything in the collection is thus dubbed "Not a ..." For example, Ricci creates scented products called Not a Candle, Not a Home Diffuser, and Not a Hand Cream, all containing the iconic Not a Perfume scent.
Not a Perfume by Juliette Has a Gun💋
This perfume is NOT a perfume. The key ingredient of Not a Perfume is cetalox, synthetic ambergris. Typically ambergris is used in its natural form and as a base note, not the primary ingredient of a fragrance.
The team at Juliette Has a Gun is doing away with all of the traditional rules of perfumery. It's a provocative declaration of going against the norm, which is standard for the Juliette Has a Gun woman.
Its composition also means it is one of the only fragrances on the market without allergens due to its single ingredient Cetalox composition. The result is a clean and unique scent that is both warm and sheer.
Cetalox adapts to your skin, so each spritz is as unique as your mood, energy, and moment.
💋What Does Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume Smell Like?
With only one fragrance ingredient, synthetic ambergris, also known as Cetalox, the scent of Not a Perfume is uncomplicated. You get a strong amber and wood scent matched with a sincere sweetness from this perfume.
Because the fragrance only has one ingredient for scent, there is no competition between notes.
💄What Other Perfume Smells Like Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume?💋
Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume has one characteristic scent. This is due to the fragrance of the Not a Perfume scent only containing one ingredient, Cetalox.
The synthetic ambergris is the only scent in the entire bottle. Dossier Musky Musk also uses Cetalox in its formulation and thus has a very similar, if not identical scent.
The Dossier Musky Musk has no top notes but has Cetalox and ISO E Super as middle notes. ISO E Super is another synthetic fragrance molecule.
Base notes in Dossier Musky Musk include various musk and habanolide which is a powerful musk that combines the strength of aromatic musk with the elegance of macrocyclic musks.
The result is a super unique fragrance!
💋Introducing Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume Dossier.co Dupe: Musky Musk
My Juliette Has a Gun Not a perfume Dossier.co experience has been quite pleasant. I ended up purchasing the Dossier Musky Musk scent which is inspired by the Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume fragrance for women.
The scent is very popular on the Dossier website. There are over 600 reviews with a 4.2 average rating for the Musky Musk scent.
Dossier describes Musky Musk as the U.F.O. of the fragrance world. It's created with a high-tech and high-end synthetic molecule named Cetalox, which smells like synthetic ambergris.
The result is a pure, clean, musky, woody, and ultra-modern distinguished scent. The descriptive scent blend's with your natural scent instead of masking it. The end scent is something uniquely yours. I love how this perfume smells different on everybody yet is consistent with the original Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume scent.
With Cetalox as the base note, the product continues to develop throughout the day. The scent you start with is not the scent you end with. Notes play on each other to create a harmony of blissful aroma.
Comparison: Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume vs. Dossier Musky Musk💋
Dossier Musky Musk is inspired by Juliette Has a Gun's Not a Perfume fragrance. The star ingredient of both scents is Cetalox, synthetic ambergris.
However, do these perfumes smell identical? I compare them side by side on the most important fragrance attributes below.
Dossier Musky Musk smells amazing! The scent intensifies as you wear it and by the end of the day, you have something uniquely your own. The Dossier Musky Musk is also super long-lasting!
The 15% fragrance concentration makes the scent stay all day. ❇
I find it lasts longer than the Not a Perfume scent. The fragrance itself is of high quality. All Dossier ingredients are sourced from Grasse, France which is the perfume capital of the world.
I am someone who gravitates toward high-end luxury products. Despite the affordable price of Dossier, this scent feels like a luxury. The sleek details and refined scent feel elevated.
Juliette Has a Gun Note a Perfume also holds its own when it comes to quality. The scent is also long-lasting, although my Dossier did outlive this one. The Cetalox concept is a unique innovation of not a perfume and makes it one of the only designer scents on the market sans allergens.
Dossier's Musky Musk is under $30 for a designer-quality scent! My 1.7-ounce bottle was just $29 which is unbelievable considering the quality of this scent.
Comparatively the Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume retails for $105 for 1.7 ounces. That's a huge difference. Like I said I prefer luxury products in general, but the Dossier scent feels like luxury and smells like a luxury but for about 70% off the retail price.
Dossier uses the same packaging across all of its products. This keeps things consistent and creates a beautiful assortment on your vanity if you own multiple Dossier scents-which after this experience I certainly will!
The packaging of Musky Musk is sleek and modern. The glass bottle is heavy and luxurious. Dossier provides a fragrance card with each bottle which contains details on ingredients, notes, directions, and sourcing.
It also includes a shiny silver cap that's also magnetic, which will prevent me from losing my caps!💄
To be honest I don't love the original Juliette Has a Gun Packaging. I usually prefer my fragrance bottles to be clear to have an idea of how much I have left. The white bottle is also a bit dated to me, but it is a bit edgy if you're into that kind of look.
You can also find Juliet Has a Gun Not a Perfume in a travel size which is a nice way to test out a Cetalox scent before buying or using on the go. Dossier doesn't have trial sizes at the moment because their prices are so fair, but the magnetic cap means I can travel with peace of mind knowing my Dossier scent won't leak.
💋Pros of Dossier and Musky Musk
I'm with Dossier on "team clean." Fragrance should make you feel good. That's why it's imperative to find a high-quality paraben and phthalate-free scent like the ones at Dossier.
Many Dossier reviews state that this scent lasts longer than the original Not a Perfume from Juliette Has a gun. This scent lasts me hours and it intensifies with wear.💄
Many fragrances, even designer brands, contain harmful colorants, and hormone-disrupting ingredients that are doing you more harm than good. I love that I can trust Dossier formulations to be better for me and the planet.
Dossier states that their scents are also colorant and UV-filter-free. They follow strict U.S. and E.U. cosmetic regulations when formulating all scents. Their fragrances are 100% non-toxic so they're something you can feel safe using.
And I can feel good knowing that they are also a cruelty-free and vegan company!
💋Cons of Dossier and Musky Musk
None! I'm not just saying that, this Dossier Musky Musk scent checks all of the boxes for me. It's affordable, delicious, smells like the real thing, sustainable, ethical, vegan, and long-lasting.
Dossier customers agree with me. Raving customer reviews say things like "prepare to be stopped" on the street and asked what you're wearing, or "love, love, love."
🕐What is the Best Time to Wear Dossier Musky Musk?💋
Most consumers agree that Dossier Musky Musk is a great daytime scent. It can also be worn at night, be its airy aura makes it better for the day. The amber, musky, and woodiness of this scent make it perfect for the fall and winter seasons.
Yet the scent is pretty neutral and can be enjoyed year-round. As mentioned it's a light scent, so it won't weigh you down in the sticky summer months.
Final thoughts 🤷🏼♀️
This is THE COOLEST fragrance company!!! I am all for luxury brands and their products but when it comes to fragrance I like to change it up a lot. Trying to do that with traditional brands is practically unaffordable. The packaging is sleek and modern. The glass feels heavy and lux. It comes with a fragrance card that gives you all the details on the product. When I first applied I honestly couldn’t smell it (which panicked me at first thinking I had Covid again 🤣) but the scent does truly intensify over hours to leave you with a modern, clean, lightly musky fragrance. I believe this is a unisex fragrance so can be worn by anyone! I am definitely definitely definitely going to be trying more from this brand !!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
