To Prime or Not To Prime? - Touch In Sol Primer Showdown!

Does wearing a primer make a difference? And if so, does it matter what primer you use?
I went on a mission to find the answers with this Touch In Sol Primer Showdown!
I have combination skin, getting the oiliest on my nose and forehead. I also did my make up the exact same way each day, the only thing I changed was my primer. Here are my results:

No Primer
Thoughts: After applying my make up, I noticed my texture was a bit visible, and I was a bit shiny on some spots on my face but I usually don’t mind a slightly dewy look so I wasn’t bothered. I noticed throughout the day that my concealer creased a lot and that I was pretty oily around my nose. My texture also became more apparent and the make up around my blemishes looked dry.

Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm
Website Description: “Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm is an ultra-hydrating priming skin balm with a sensationally smooth texture that melts into your skin and creates the ultimate glow that lasts throughout the day. A Glow Balm delivers optimal prepped canvas for makeup. All you need in a busy morning is this 5-in-1 glow balm. This all-in-one balm delivers roles of hydrating cream + moist pack + primer + glow cream + boosting for your radiant skin”
Thoughts: So I will say I was both intrigued and skeptical about this product. I love the glassy skin look but a 5-in-1 product seems like a BIG claim. I will say this smells pretty strong and I can slightly smell the alcohol in it. It’s incredibly moisturizing to the touch and definitely leaves a dewy finish. I noticed my blemishes slightly tingled when I applied this product to my face, I am assuming from the alcohol in this product. This product left my face dewy and radiant but did feel heavy which worried me since I had not applied my makeup yet... Once I applied my makeup I knew this was going to be a disaster. My skin felt very cakey even though I applied a light amount of makeup on. I could see my texture and my skin looked oily. This primer did not last! It made me SO oily, I felt like I had stood in front of a deep fryer all day! My mascara transferred all over my eyes, my foundation broke down, and my blemishes were exposed! I was SO happy to wash my face after wearing this primer. Definitely goes to show that you should be skeptical of a 5-in-1 product.
Overall: As a primer, this is a HUGE no for me. As a moisturizer, this is a HUGE yes for me! Unless you have VERY dry skin or like a VERY dewy makeup finish, I suggest using this as a moisturizer. The name doesn’t lie, this product will make your face look glassy but I think it looks SO much better without make up. I will be using this on days when I want to pull off a radiant and moisturized fresh face look!

No Poreblem Primer
Website Description: “No Poreblem Primer provides seamless coverage for concealing pores and uneven skin tone, while creating an invisible layer that acts as a barrier to outside elements. It leaves skin velvety, smooth, and fresh—and completely prepped for flawless makeup application.”
Thoughts: I love the packaging, the dispenser is easy to use and the product has a very nice floral scent. This primer feels very silky to the touch and feels like it seals your pores. I could see a difference in my texture before I even applied my make up. My foundation applied very smoothly and evenly! My blemishes were so much easier to cover and I felt like the look of texture was very much reduced. This primer made my make up wear last all day! Like the before and after pictures almost look identical to me besides very slight creasing under my eyes. This is definitely worth the price, and it’s vegan!
Overall: Everyone, we have a winner! I would definitely recommend this primer if you have combination skin. This primer left my make up looking fresh throughout the day AND really blurred my blemishes! I am interested in trying this with a heavier face of makeup since I went for a more natural look this time. I am making this my new main primer!

No Poreblem Prime Essence
Website Description: “Touch In Sol's No Poreblem Prime Essence is infused with Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract. This primer tightens up the pores and keeps the skin silky and smooth for better and long-lasting makeup.”
Thoughts: I haven’t seen a primer with packaging like this so I was very intrigued by the shape of the dispenser. The actual primer has a serum-like consistency and has little to no fragrance. I patted this on my skin per instructions and noticed it left my skin feeling soft but it didn’t seem to look like it made a difference on my appearance. Once I finished applying my makeup, I noticed my foundation felt slightly sticky to the touch so I applied a bit more setting spray in hopes of combating this. I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference in how my make up applied in comparison to using no primer. In terms of long term wear, this primer is a no for me. I feel like it made my texture so much more noticeable than when I don’t apply primer at all. My skin got oilier than usual which broke down my foundation making it patchy and exposing my blemishes. I also noticed most of my blush had smudged off during the day but that could have just been from wearing a face mask to the grocery store.
Overall: I don’t think that I would use this product again as a primer. I honestly think this is meant to be more of a serum you apply before you apply your primer. I will probably continue to use it as a serum because I am interested in the fact that it has Calendula Flower extract in it which can improve your skin's firmness and elasticity.

Such a good honest review! I agree! The No Poreblem Primer was my favorite too! The Prime Essence also reminded me of a serum. It had a crazy applicator that is unique and intriguing! And glassy..i will be using it as a moisturizer, love the dewy finish but doesnt work under my makeup! But all in all i loved all these products!!!😍

    Love your review.

I have to prime! I love a good pore filling primer and once I apply the primer I spray with setting spray just to give the cosmetics a little something more to grab onto and to help with the foundation. I usually can go around 4 to 5 hours without powdering.

Hi Carla! Such an exceptional review WoW!! I learned alot from your review! I agree 100% with you on your results from the glassy skin balm and prime essence, I can clearly see exactly what you described in your feeling and seeing the aftermath of your applications if the two products, I also have combination skin so I'm pretty much in agreement these 2 products may be too much moisture for my face too, of course I'd have to try them before knowing this as a fact! Loved your very interesting extremely informative review, Thank you!! Incredible job you've done taking those pics too! 😊👍😊

Great review. I really hope I get to try this awesome brand. Looks and sounds like a very good brand. Thanks for your honest opinion on how you would use the primer. I have several different primers. I can tell how well the primer is by how long it stays. I love Tarte Shape Tape, very long lasting. Usually last all day at work. If out in heat or moving more it will last less time. But that's a given with any primer.

Amazing review. It was really thorough and informative I enjoyed it!

Love the review! Probably one of the best reviews of a product that I've ever read. I don't use primer everyday. When I'm aiming for a fresh, sun-kissed finish I use Flower by Drew Glow-Getter Liquid Illuminizer. It's lightweight, water based, & works great alone or in conjunction with virtually all of your other face care & cosmetic products. It doesn't exactly provide a glassy look, but does provide a beautiful iridescent finish.

Thank you so much for the fun & informative review! The length of time that my base makeup lasts throughout the day before needing a touch up, honestly depends on whether or not I used a good primer before applying my foundation! Without a good primer, I'm lucky to get through til lunchtime. With the use of a good primer, I'm good to go until I'm too tired to go anymore! I'm a big fan of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer but I'm really anxious to try Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer and Touch In Sol No Poreblem Prime Essence. I'm super intrigued by the Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm and it's definitely on my list of must try items!!

To your question Prime or no Prime. I would have to say please Prime and shine. I've grown fond of these Primers No Poreblem Primer and Glassy skin balm. Good review for showdown.

I definitely Dabble in primers as well. My skin is super oily and prone to acne breakouts, do I'm always on the lookout for a good primer. Currently, I switch between First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Pores be gone matte primer and Smashbox oil free photo finish foundation primer. But, as I said, I've used tons of different ones, I've not found one I'm 100% in love with, that's oil free, Mattifying, pore filling and inexpensive.

My life saver lol.

  • Christina Knittel

I have never used a primer before, as I'm not sure what to look for. Thank you for this review! I may be trying out the No Poreblem Primer thanks to it!

I am learning so much about the world or primers and do think that I need to have more than one option since my skin seams to be breaking out and the rest of my face is fine. My primer usually lasts until I go to sleep but that is also because I only use primer when I am going out and wearing makeup.

  • Mekala Holley

I never use primer because I can’t find one that doesn’t break my skin out since I have extremely sensitive skin. So if anyone has any suggestions on a good primer for someone with extremely sensitive skin. A side note is I have combination skin(oily/dry) depending on the season. Most of the time I have to say my skin stays oily. Which I hate. So I never wear makeup because it seems like makeup always makes my skin worse

I love the prime essence one. I believe it’s meant for those of us that like a more full coverage glam look. I look for a primer more on the tacky side to ensure the layers are going to stay but once I set my face with powder and complete with spray there is no tackiness to it whatsoever. If you’re not setting with powder prior to spray you’re going to feel sticky because you have liquid primer , liquid foundation then putting a spray into it. You definitely have to set with some type of powder to appreciate the priming essence. I have really dry skin and my face hasn’t felt Dehydrated since I started using this one. I personally love it. Primer is really a personal preference.

I love pacifica powder primer! I have naturally shiny skin. it does wonders for me!

  • Jennifer Henning

I would love to be able to use some type of primer. It's one make up item that I have not had a chance to experience to see how I'd like it and what benefits would happen for me. From your review it looks really great. Makes me really want to try some primers nd see how it goes.

i would use the shades 'au natural' in the cut crease, 'put on heirs' on the lids, and add a little 'moody' on the ends of my eyelids to darken a little. all from nude mood eyeshadow palette. my base makeup lasts me around 14-16 hours when i start noticing i may need a touch but by then its the end of the day so i dont bother.
