To Prime or Not To Prime? - Touch In Sol Primer Showdown!
Does wearing a primer make a difference? And if so, does it matter what primer you use?
I went on a mission to find the answers with this Touch In Sol Primer Showdown!
I have combination skin, getting the oiliest on my nose and forehead. I also did my make up the exact same way each day, the only thing I changed was my primer. Here are my results:
Thoughts: After applying my make up, I noticed my texture was a bit visible, and I was a bit shiny on some spots on my face but I usually don’t mind a slightly dewy look so I wasn’t bothered. I noticed throughout the day that my concealer creased a lot and that I was pretty oily around my nose. My texture also became more apparent and the make up around my blemishes looked dry.
Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm
Website Description: “Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm is an ultra-hydrating priming skin balm with a sensationally smooth texture that melts into your skin and creates the ultimate glow that lasts throughout the day. A Glow Balm delivers optimal prepped canvas for makeup. All you need in a busy morning is this 5-in-1 glow balm. This all-in-one balm delivers roles of hydrating cream + moist pack + primer + glow cream + boosting for your radiant skin”
Thoughts: So I will say I was both intrigued and skeptical about this product. I love the glassy skin look but a 5-in-1 product seems like a BIG claim. I will say this smells pretty strong and I can slightly smell the alcohol in it. It’s incredibly moisturizing to the touch and definitely leaves a dewy finish. I noticed my blemishes slightly tingled when I applied this product to my face, I am assuming from the alcohol in this product. This product left my face dewy and radiant but did feel heavy which worried me since I had not applied my makeup yet... Once I applied my makeup I knew this was going to be a disaster. My skin felt very cakey even though I applied a light amount of makeup on. I could see my texture and my skin looked oily. This primer did not last! It made me SO oily, I felt like I had stood in front of a deep fryer all day! My mascara transferred all over my eyes, my foundation broke down, and my blemishes were exposed! I was SO happy to wash my face after wearing this primer. Definitely goes to show that you should be skeptical of a 5-in-1 product.
Overall: As a primer, this is a HUGE no for me. As a moisturizer, this is a HUGE yes for me! Unless you have VERY dry skin or like a VERY dewy makeup finish, I suggest using this as a moisturizer. The name doesn’t lie, this product will make your face look glassy but I think it looks SO much better without make up. I will be using this on days when I want to pull off a radiant and moisturized fresh face look!
No Poreblem Primer
Website Description: “No Poreblem Primer provides seamless coverage for concealing pores and uneven skin tone, while creating an invisible layer that acts as a barrier to outside elements. It leaves skin velvety, smooth, and fresh—and completely prepped for flawless makeup application.”
Thoughts: I love the packaging, the dispenser is easy to use and the product has a very nice floral scent. This primer feels very silky to the touch and feels like it seals your pores. I could see a difference in my texture before I even applied my make up. My foundation applied very smoothly and evenly! My blemishes were so much easier to cover and I felt like the look of texture was very much reduced. This primer made my make up wear last all day! Like the before and after pictures almost look identical to me besides very slight creasing under my eyes. This is definitely worth the price, and it’s vegan!
Overall: Everyone, we have a winner! I would definitely recommend this primer if you have combination skin. This primer left my make up looking fresh throughout the day AND really blurred my blemishes! I am interested in trying this with a heavier face of makeup since I went for a more natural look this time. I am making this my new main primer!
No Poreblem Prime Essence
Website Description: “Touch In Sol's No Poreblem Prime Essence is infused with Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract. This primer tightens up the pores and keeps the skin silky and smooth for better and long-lasting makeup.”
Thoughts: I haven’t seen a primer with packaging like this so I was very intrigued by the shape of the dispenser. The actual primer has a serum-like consistency and has little to no fragrance. I patted this on my skin per instructions and noticed it left my skin feeling soft but it didn’t seem to look like it made a difference on my appearance. Once I finished applying my makeup, I noticed my foundation felt slightly sticky to the touch so I applied a bit more setting spray in hopes of combating this. I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference in how my make up applied in comparison to using no primer. In terms of long term wear, this primer is a no for me. I feel like it made my texture so much more noticeable than when I don’t apply primer at all. My skin got oilier than usual which broke down my foundation making it patchy and exposing my blemishes. I also noticed most of my blush had smudged off during the day but that could have just been from wearing a face mask to the grocery store.
Overall: I don’t think that I would use this product again as a primer. I honestly think this is meant to be more of a serum you apply before you apply your primer. I will probably continue to use it as a serum because I am interested in the fact that it has Calendula Flower extract in it which can improve your skin's firmness and elasticity.
