Not a One Trick Pony: NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer
NYX says "this super silky, light, and fresh formula creates a comfortable cushion on your skin to enhance makeup application. The incredibly formula creates a smooth, uniform canvas that minimizes shine and makes application flawless. Your skin will feel like it's been touched by an angel." NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer contains 30ml (1 fl oz) and sells for about $16 - pretty pricey for a drugstore primer. NYX is proud to be a cruelty free company, and it intends to stay that way, even though they were recently acquired by L'Oreal. This product was made in China.
NYX Angel Veil Primer has cute and efficient packaging. This primer comes in an opaque, white squeeze tube with a metallic pink cap. The NYX logo and product name are printed on the front of the tube in bold black letters. The nozzle dispenses just a small pearl of product at a time. Directions and an ingredient list can be found on the back of the of the tube. All packaging is recyclable.
The Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer is interesting. This face primer is white, thick, and dry in texture, its a bit powdery feeling as it get blended out. Despite the uncommon consistency, this primer applies smoothly. Angel Veil isn't a one trick pony - it does a couple things, and does them well. This white primer blurs pores and fine lines, while adding a slight white tinge to the skin. On fair skin like my own, it gives a soft focus, almost ethereal effect. However, on deep, or even medium skin, this primer will give an ashy appearance. Angel Veil's white cast will be apparent in photos, even on fair skin. This primer has an almost powdery finish on the skin that helps keep oil at bay. Unfortunately, Angel Veil is more likely to hinder foundation application than it is to help. The dry texture can make even blending a little difficult. I don't believe that NYX' Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer has a significant impact on my makeup's longevity.
Whether or not NYX Angel Veil is right for you depends on both your skin type, and your skin tone. This skin perfecting primer is only ideal for fair to light complexions and normal to oily skin types. This white tinted primer will give a soft focus, blurred look while providing a little bit of oil control. I enjoy using this primer, mostly as a standalone product, but I doubt that I'll repurchase it it. I think its a bit too costly for what it does. I hope NYX releases a tinted version Angel Veil in the future to include more skin tones. For a similar effect (with better oil control) at a more reasonable price, try Rimmel's Stay Matte Primer instead.
