My Skin 👩🏻
Acne-Prone (not cystic, mainly hormonal, 1-2 medium-large pimples a week)
In high school and the first couple years of college I struggled with acne. Aside from the hormonal breakouts my skin has cleared up in the last couple years due in part to finally maintaining a skincare routine! Because of how pale I am acne scaring and discoloration became one of my main concerns. I want to be able to show off my freckles without thinking about other spots on my skin! When curating my skincare routine I was on a mission to find a mask that I could use consistently a couple of times a week. Enter Herbivore Blue Tansy Invisible Pores Resufacing Clarity Mask!
How I Use 💁🏻♀️
I typically use this mask 2-3 nights a week. Because this product contains BHAs and AHAs the instructions say to leave the mask for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off. For sensitive skin they recommend starting with 5-10 minutes to see how your skin reacts.
I’ll be honest.... this mask soaks into the skin and it is really easy to forget that you even have a mask on! Because of this I typically forget that I’m wearing it. I’ve been know to leave this mask one for 1-2 hours 👀 before remembering to wash it off and moisturize. In my personal experience I have not had any adverse effects from leaving the mask on for too long; however, I wouldn’t recommend that you follow my lead, especially if you have sensitive skin! I remove the mask using a warm, damp face cloth.
Let’s talk about the color 💙
I’ll admit, in the jar this mask is quite an intimidating color. As you can see from my photos above, the color is hardly noticeable on the skin. A little goes a longggg way, and once spread out the color is almost unnoticeable. Now I wouldn’t go out in public wearing it, but after a couple of minutes it soaks in and the color fades.
‼️Important - Herbivore states that the color of this mask can vary from blue to a teal-green due to the natural products it is made from. The color will fade over time becoming more green rather than blue; however, they claim that this does not change the efficacy.
Let’s talk about the smell 👃
The smell of this mask is probably its most divisive quality. Almost all of the reviews on Sephora make some mention of the smell. Many of the bad reviews are solely because of the smell. While scent in skincare is usually considered to be a bad ingredient for the skin, and clean skincare is typically scent-free, the ingredients in this mask naturally have a strong scent.
I’m going to do my best to describe it.... the first comparison I though of was Vick’s VapoSteam or Bengay, except with less of a menthol scent and a bit more woody or earthy.
At first the scent was a bit surprising, and took some getting used to. Thought the scent from the jar is very strong, once applied to the face I don’t notice the smell. Personally I don’t mind the scent and honestly it’s starting to grow on me 😂
If you are someone who doesn’t like strong scents, scented skincare, etc. then unfortunately I do think that this could be a dealbreaker❗️
My Thoughts 💭
This mask is exactly what I was looking for when I decided to add a mask to my skincare routine. I bought this mask mainly to combat acne and redness, and I believe that it has helped my skin improve in those areas! Despite being in the name, I didn’t buy this mask because it claims to be pore reducing. I honestly can’t say that I have noticed a huge difference in my pores, but that also hasn’t been something I’ve been focusing on much.
The size of the jar is big!! Two ounces may not seem like much, but a little bit of this mask goes such a long way. This mask also comes in a mini size (0.5oz) in a kit with a mini of the Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil for $24. This mini lasted me almost six months! I probably should have repurchased the mini kit instead of the full size (because I may never use this whole jar), but I’m not a big face oil gal.
For me this mask is great because it is effective but also gentle enough that I can use it multiple times a week without drying my skin out. If you’re like me and would rather stick to using one mask over a variety of sheet or single-use masks, then this is definitely one to consider!
🔹 great mask for normal-oily skin types that are acne-prone
🔹 clean, natural ingredients
🔹 feels great on the skin and soaks right in
🔹 a little goes a long way
🔹 color isn’t as crazy as it looks
🔹 strong scent if that’s not your thing
❤️ has helped to effectively reduce my breakouts!
I know this post was quite long, but I think it’s important to break everything down when talking about skincare! Though I consider myself much more of a makeup gal, I’m realizing that it is fun to chat about skincare too!! What’s your favorite skincare mask or skincare staple?
Hope you enjoyed this deep dive 💕
