Hi beauties!! 🍀🧡✨
This post was drafted last week, but I got busy and didn’t finish writing it until today. 🤣
If there's one part of my skin-care routine I invest the most in, it's undoubtedly serums. It is also the first step I usually recommend to friends and family after they've covered the basic dermatologist-approved skin-care routine of cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. ✨
Yes they can be pricey, but your skin would thank you for the highly concentrated amounts of active ingredients that'll help deeply hydrate, smooth out uneven skin tone, and brighten your complexion.
That’s why I like to discover good serums despite of their sky-high price tags, and that’s also why I appreciate companies being generous with their serum samples: ideally I’d like to try out a serum for at least 4-5 days before investing another $100 or $200 on a larger bottle.
This is especially true with Vitamin C serums, with an extra reason: they tend to have an unpleasant smell despite of their amazing skincare benefits. And it makes it even more important to try out the serums first, so that we won’t waste our hard earned money for something I couldn’t keep using.
Phloretin CF with Ferulic Acid was recommended to me by my old friend Gracie a few years ago, but I thought it was way too expensive (yet I also spent $200+ on SK2 serums at the time…lol) comparing to the Obagi ones I was using. Lately I received 2 small bottles (one for my bf, but he didn’t like the smell, so I get to use 2 🤣😍😍🎶 hahah) so I have been using this celebrity fav Vc serum pretty often, together with Clarins’ Double Serum.
This review is going to be quite detailed with some tips in using Vc serums at the very end. So please read on ✨💓

🍊Vitamin C serum 101: anti-aging🍊
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals, slows down signs of photoaging, and prevents dark spots from forming in the first place by inhibiting the production of melanin. Also, because of its acidic nature, vitamin C also signals to your skin to repair itself by accelerating the production of collagen and elastin which keeps skin firm and plump.
I read about the benefits of Vitamin C 7-8 years ago, and I first used it to help diminish my acne scars. I soon realized that whenever I use Vc serums, my skin would feel and look more youthful. So I ended up using different Vc serums and Vc lotions (fairly common in Japan) throughout the years.
Even though I still need to deal with acne caused hyperpigmentation (as there are always new ones induced by stress), I do noticed that people often get my age wrong (not only because I’m Asian 😅), so I partially attribute it to the nice serums (including Vc ones) that I have used throughout the years. 😍
Lately I’ve been looking into more affordable Vc products, and I’ll write about my findings in the future too.
