Hello Beauties!
I bring you another eyeshadow palette; this time a New mini palette from Lawless Beauty- The Baby One.
π I was gifted this palette through Octoly, and I have to say I was so excited to get my hands on this baby (hahah, get it?) It had some gorgeous berry & brown shades that would make for stunning fall inspired smokey eyes, gorgeous shimmers for a cute halo look, and amazing mattes for everyday wear!
π Upon receiving it, like anyone else would-I wanted to swatch these ASAP! The colors were amazing and although the shimmers needed to be built up a bit for the color to come through- I was in love with this palette!
π© My biggest disappointment came right after- when reading the ingredients. Not one, or two, but three of the shades had Carmine in it! (Little Doll, Cherub & Sweet Dreams). I'm not strictly vegan with make-up products as I only recently started getting into ingredient lists after seeing some makeup documentaries; but I try to make conscious decisions about the products I buy and strive to have as little harmful ingredients as possible, clean products, vegan AND leaping bunny certified (this includes cruelty-free).
π§ Although this palette was considered "clean" since it was free of parabens, phthalates, etc it was in no way vegan or leaping bunny certified and even though they claim it on the website, definitely NOT cruelty free. You can imagine my disappointment.
βΉοΈ For those that are unaware (like I used to be) - Carmine is an ingredient found in multiple makeup products, usually added to shades in the red family to really make the color pop. π
"Carmine is the aluminum lake of the coloring agent, cochineal, a natural pigment derived from the dried female insect Coccus cacti(cochineal). In addition to its use in cosmetics and personal care products, Carmine is used as a food coloring and may often be found in juice, yogurt and candy." (Excerpt from CosmeticsInfo.org)
It takes about 70,000 cochineal insects to make ONE POUND of red dye, you heard me, JUST one pound. It's definitely hard to digest that information if you've never thought or considered it before.
π Although for reviews' sake, I am required to test this product, it definitely won't be one I reach for and I can't make the decision to gift it as I wouldn't want someone else putting crushed insects on their eyes either π±
So I guess only time and my conscience will tell what I decide to do with this palette. πππ
