Hey guys! Today, I'm here to show you this super fun yet simple-to-apply graphic liner look.
Graphic eyeliner has been around for decades. Twiggy made it popular in the 1960s, and the TV show Euphoria helped the trend resurge in 2020. Now, you can see celebrities like Dua Lipa rocking this look on Insta and in the streets.
But what exactly is a graphic liner? And how can you get my look? I'm answering these questions and more below, so keep reading. 💕
What Is a Graphic Liner?👀
Graphic eyeliner is the eye makeup trend of drawing fun geometric shapes in a variety of colors on or around the upper and lower lash line. This makeup style is more unique than the winged liner and can help draw attention to your eyes. 👁️
How to Get the Look😍
This graphic eyeliner look totally gives me retro vibes! It is so cute but super simple to pull off. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you create this look for yourself! 💁♀️
Step 1. Draw a Cat Eye 😼
First, I used a navy blue eyeliner pencil from NYX to draw a cat eye shape. But I did not fill the cat eye in with liner. This last part is super important to achieving the trendy graphic liner look.
Step 2. Clean Up With Concealer ✍🏼
Next, I used my regular concealer to clean up any smudges or mistakes I made with the eyeliner pencil. You can use any concealer in your shade. But the higher coverage the concealer is, the better.
Step 3. Fill in the Cat Eye With Shadow 🦹🏼♀️
Finally, I took a blue eye shadow from the Violet Voss Forget Me Not palette and filled in the cat eye eyeliner shape. And that is it!
Products I Used ⭐
To create this look, I used Violet Voss Forget Me Not fun-sized palette and the NYX Retractable Eye Liner in the shade Deep Blue. I also applied Jules Smith Beauty Power Slick gloss in the shade, Bling Berry.
Do I Recommend the Mini Forget Me Not Palette?🌟
The Mini Forget Me Not Palette from Violet Voss cosmetics is a fun-sized eyeshadow palette. It features ten beautiful and highly-pigmented shades for only $18.
The palette's name comes from the forget-me-not flower. These flowers produce beautiful blue blooms. The color of these flowers inspired the palette, which features blue, teal, and coordinating shadows.
Violet Voss is one of my favorite makeup brands. A team of real-life makeup artists creates the products. And the founder and CEO, Paula Hayes, is a certified cosmetic chemist, making Violet Voss a woman-owned beauty brand.
Pros and Cons of Mini Forget Me Not Palette🏆
Pros 👍
✅Easy to Blend
Like all of Violet Voss Cosmetics' shadows, these pigments are extremely easy to blend. The matte shadows come together seamlessly for an airbrushed look.
✅High Pigmentation
As you can see, I did not use any eye primer for this look. Still, the pigmentation of the Violet Voss bright blue matte shade is just incredible!
✅Cool and Warm Tones
The Forget Me Not Palette definitely focuses on blues and teals, which make up eight out of the ten shadows. But there are also two warmer terracotta shades to create a balanced yet striking graphic eyeliner look.
✅Wet-Look Foils
As expected from Violet Voss, the foils are second-to-none. They give that dewy, almost wet-like appearance when applied with your finger.
✅Creamy Mattes
The Forget Me Not mini palette has four beautiful matte shades. One is a terracotta/coral color. The other three are blue and teal, with a light and a dark teal, as well as a medium cornflower blue.
✅Cute Packaging
I just can not get enough of this palette's packaging! It comes in a slim blue palette with forget-me-not flowers printed on the front. This mini palette even comes with a mirror, making it perfect for traveling.
✅Perfect Balance of Mattes and Shimmers
Some palettes have too many matte shades, while others are a bit heavy on shimmers, glitters, and foils. Not this palette. In one mini, you get four easy-to-blend matte shadows and six stunning glitter foils.
Cons 👎
❌These Shadows Are Pressed Pigments
Violet Voss typically sells pressed pigments, and these shadows are no different. While you can use eyeshadow and pressed pigment interchangeably, not all pigments are safe for use on or around the eye.
That means you could have an allergic reaction to some of the shades in this palette. If you are allergic to Red No. 40 or Blue No. 1 pigments, steer clear of this palette, as the shadows may irritate your eyes.
❌Not for the Faint of Heart
What do I mean by that? This palette is bold, bright, and beautiful. It does not contain any neutral shades, so you may want to search elsewhere if you want a more toned-down graphic eyeliner look.
Do I Recommend the Mini Forget Me Not Palette for Graphic Liner?💫
Yes! I have also used similar eyeshadow palettes as graphic liners for previous looks. That is because you can turn any eyeshadow into a graphic liner in a few steps.
Here is how I used the Forget Me Not Palette from Violet Voss in my look.
First, remove some of the eyeshadow from the palette. This is especially important if you want to use it as an eyeshadow in the future. Adding water or setting spray directly to the tin will destroy the dry consistency.
Next, mix the eyeshadow you removed from the palette with micellar water or regular water. Setting spray can also help improve the pigmentation and create a longer-lasting look.
Finally, apply your new eyeliner with a thin liner brush or an angled liner brush. Keep in mind that a matte shadow will dry matte. But you can also try the shimmery foils for a glam graphic liner look.
Forget Me Not Palette Alternatives🥰
Are you looking for an alternative to the blue and teal colors of the Forget Me Not mini palette? We have three great options below that will also work well as graphic liners.
1.🧡 Suva Beauty Hydra FX Palette
The Suva Beauty Hydra FX palettes come in four UV colorways. This includes Brights, Taffies, Primaries, and Grunge. Unfortunately, however, there are only five colors per palette, and it costs $32.
These shadows are extremely easy to convert to graphic liners. Just add water and use the eyeliner brush that comes with the palette.
2.💙 Kryolan Cake Eye Liner Set
The Kryolan Cake Eye Liner Set also features two different colorways with only five shades each. These liner slash shadows are even more expensive, costing you $32.90 per palette.
I think this set is worth the money, though. It comes with an angled eyeliner brush, so you can convert the powders to liquid liners. And these liners are incredibly long-lasting color-intensive, smudge-proof, and waterproof.
3.💚 Anastasia Beverly Hills NORVINA Electric Cake Liners
The ABH NORVINA Electric Cake Liners are neon water-activated liners. They come in sets of red, yellow, and green or orange, violet, and white.
These cake liners are the most expensive option on our list. They cost $30 for only three liner pots. On the plus side, these cake liners are extremely pigmented, especially when you use setting spray instead of water to apply.
However, I recommend trying the Kryolin cake liners over these. The ABH ones are messy to apply. And they are not smudge-proof or waterproof like the Kryolin cake liners.
FAQs❓
Before I go, I wanted to answer some frequently asked questions I get about graphic liners. Here are the answers you have been searching for!
🌟 What Can I Use as a Graphic Liner?
In this look, I used a retractable eyeliner from NYX. But you can also use water-activated cake liners and eyeshadow to create graphic eyeliner looks.
🌟 Can You Do a Graphic Liner With Eyeshadow?
Yes! Using eyeshadow as a graphic liner can help you mix up your look. You can try using glitters and foils. Plus, you will have more color options to choose from if you decide to try eyeshadow.
All you have to do is add some water or setting spray to the eyeshadow to convert it into a highly-pigmented liner!
🌟 How Do You Remove Graphic Liners?
Graphic liner formulas are typically smudge-proof and waterproof. So, you may need to use makeup remover wipes to get it off. Once you finish with the wipes, use a soft washcloth and face wash to remove any remaining liner.
🌟 What Eyeliner Is Best for Graphic Liners?
The best eyeliner to create graphic looks should be smudge-proof and waterproof. You will be drawing the liner around your eye, so you do not want to accidentally mess it up!
🌟 How Do You Do Graphic Liner With Hooded Eyes?
My tip is to place your graphic liner a bit higher to achieve the right look. Avoid placing liner too close to your lash line. You do not want to accidentally lose that beautiful liner in your crease!
