When I saw the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer as a tester, I knew it was the perfect time to test this as against the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer!
The Power Grip Primer (full size - 24 mL) is a tacky gel primer designed to keep makeup in place. It also has hyaluronic acid and retails for just $10.
It’s been called a dupe for the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer, which it’s full size will cost you $36 (45 mL). Even the mini, which I used in this video, is nearly twice the cost of e.l.f. ($18) and it is only 10 mL! That being said, the Milk Primer has gotten amazing reviews for its 12 hour wear and it’s skin loving ingredients such as hemp-derived cannabis seed extract and blue agave extract. It’s made of 94% natural ingredients, with aligns well with Milk Makeup’s philosophy.
Both have similar instructions - apply a thin layer and wait 30 seconds - 1 min for the primer to absorb and activate.
I did a wear test with one primer on each side of my face, and here are my thoughts on the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer:

Conclusion - Do I recommend?
My overall thoughts is that this is a great primer if you want to keep your makeup in place all day. It’s great for dry skin but you might have to reapply powder if you have oil prone areas like I do around my nose! I’m pretty used to this occurring though so I’m not surprised. More surprised that the Milk Makeup Primer kept up all day without being oily!
Is it as tacky as Milk Hydro Grip? Yes! I think it’s actually tackier. The thinner texture made me think it would be watered down but it’s actually got quite the grip to it.
Does it work with lots of types of makeup? Yes! I tested it with liquid, cream, and powder products and using brushes, sponges, and my fingers so it definitely passes the makeup application test!
