Now that the weather is gettinng nice out, sunscreen is more important than ever! ☀️
There are two main types of sunscreen: chemical and physical (sometimes called mineral).
Chemical sunscreens include organic carbon based compounds such as oxybenzene, octocrylene, and homosalate. These compounds are absorbed by the skin and they absorb UV rays and convert them into heat 🔥
They are typically reef-safe 🦑 but need more time to absorb and are more likely to irritate sensitive skin.
Physical sunscreens have mineral actives (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). They sit on top of the skin’s surface to create a barrier that blocks and reflects harmful UV rays before they reach the skin’s surface. These are typically thicker and less water resistant than their chemical counterparts.
