Drugstore versus high end… the constant battle when it comes to buying makeup! As someone who has yet to master the perfect winged eyeliner, yet loves to find a nice, bold black liner, I knew I had to do a comparison between two liquid liners I had: one from Clarins (high end), and another from Colormates (drugstore).
Here are some of the thoughts I had when comparing the 2:
1. LOWER LASHLINE: You have to be careful with Clarins because a lot comes out. Meanwhile, Colormates allows you to build up a bit more in case you mess up.
2. UPPER EYELID: Both Clarins and colormates work well. Clarins gives a much darker, more bold line with fewer strokes, while the Colormates liner has to be built up, but can be beneficial for beginners who make a mistake with the first stroke.
3. PERFECTING THE WING: At the end, if you don't like the wing, it's kind of hard to fix or fade out the Clarins wing even with your fingers/fingernails because it's so dark. The Colormates, on the other hand, can be fixed easier, and then built upon to create a darker line.
All in all, my personal preference would be the Colormates just because it seems a bit more user friendly for a novice like me. Once I master the art of a perfect wing (which won't happen until my hands are trained to be super steady), I’m sure I’ll gravitate more towards the darker and bolder Clarins!
