"Here we go round the prickly pear..."
A cute song that gets sung in rhyme but this thorny little bulb of fruit is quite essential for the skins. Today's post will be about Oh K! and their Jeju Island Mineral Hydrogel Mask AND A Dead Sea Mud Mask from Glow Amaze.

The Hydrogel mask highlights some amazing key ingredients such as Gotu Kola, Chamomile & Green Tea. But I'm very interested in the prickley pear as a main focal point. (The fruit is the selling point on the package, so it makes sense.)
The prickley pear is shown to moisturise and soften wrinkles, stimulate new cell growth, calm inflammation, help restore elasticity, and brighten skin. The Seed Oil is extremely rich in vitamins E and K, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Quite the blend when the other Superfood ingredients are combined.
The main reason I was looking into trying this mask today was because I am due for an intense mud masking but haven't attempted due to how raw it can make my face afterwards. Hahaa
With such a powerful combination to aid my skin; The calming elements of the pear and Chamomile, the redness/irritation reduction of Green Tea, the boost in antioxidants and the stimulation of cell growth & repair of Gotu Kola...I thought no better option than now to get real deep into my pores, draw out my impurities and restore my skin.
So, let's get this party started.
As is the custom, a before shot. I'd like to mention that I've been taking proper care of my skin these last few months. Back to back, even. These masks from the latest tester bag has been a real treat for my normally dry/damaged skin! Lol
👉🏻FIRST STEP--MUD MASKING

This mud is from the dead sea. It has an extremely thick consistency that needs water in order to spread. I usually use rose water to mix, but seen people claim using vinegar works better. I'm not entirely sure, mostly because I've never tried it before but rose water works fine for me.
👉🏻STEP TWO--MUD APPLICATION

Basically smear the stuff on thick. Thick enough to cover your skin without seeing too much of it underneath. Dead Sea Mud stinks SO BAD. So, it's better just to apply like your life depends on it. Because it kind of does. Hahaa despite it being so stinky, Dead Sea Mud is SOOO good for you!! It exfoliates & detoxifies, sucks out impurities, nourishes the skin by supplying it with minerals, alleviates dry skin conditions, fights aging AND acne!

After 15-20 mins, the mud starts to dry and cake up. It's pretty uncomfortable if you aren't used to the feeling. I've mud masked forever and I barely handle the feeling myself. There is a sort of slow throb that doesn't go away until you wash it off! The harder it gets, the more it pulses. At this stage, it's drawing out all the toxins and impurities in the many layers of the skin.

👉🏻STEP THREE--HYDROGEL MASK

Oh K! Hydrogel Mask comes in two pieces. A mask for the top portion of the face, and a mask for the bottom. Both masks came drenched in product! Another fun fact--hydrogel has an ability to lock in moisture and prevent the serum from evaporating. Because of the molecular makeup of the material, it can hold up to 500 times its weight in liquids while also securely adhering to your skin allowing it to sip every last drop of abundant nourishment. That is astonishing.

After you wash off the mud, your face will be a bit raw. This is where Hydrogel comes in. Starting with the bottom layer, you simply place the Hydrogel on your face using the plastic barrier piece it comes on top of. You plop it on, peel off the film and it just *sticks*
After the bottom mask is in place, you align the top to your forehead and adjust accordingly. It's a lot easier than how im typing it, I ensure you.

what I loved about the mask was how form fitting it was. Once you have it on, it stays on. No slipping around or running off.

Something I need to mention--be careful with frequent adjustments. Try to place it correctly the first time without picking it up or moving it around. I have slight ocd, so seeing it all lopsided off my face irritated me. I kept picking at it and it started to rip. Lol
👉🏻LAST STEP--THE PEEL OFF

Peel off was so easy! It's probably my favorite about masking. That urge to just R I P I T O F F!! Hahaa I tugged and the whole thing fell right off.

Afterwards, my skin was so soft. Just look at that glow in the above pics! The Dead Sea Mud made my face hot and raw but pairing it with this Hydrogel Mask soothed the whole process to such impressive degrees. The fact it comes in two pieces is amazing, especially for petite facial structures. Assemblage was easy, the way it was package was great, too. The two pieces easily layered on top without needing to fold in or around itself. The scent was a clean light floral, not overwhelming at all. I loved how the Hydrogel mask sucked all the heat from my face yet still retained its own natural coolness. The Dead Sea detoxed my skin & the Hydrogel replenished me.

To end this post, some advice from a prickly pear:
"Live a colorful life. Spend time in the desert. Wait for your time to bloom. Keep a sunny outlook and accentuate your strong points." 🌵
